This project began at a time when I was grasping for answers about loss, grief, life/death and the concept of eternal connection. What unfolded was a pleasant surprise, as my photographic experience itself became a dialogue of sorts with nature - an a container for wisdom. Each image in this portfolio blends an element of nature with a family heirloom, such as my grandmother’s silver bowl or my father’s seminary bible, to reveal visual clues and answers that met my many wonderings.

Title of this project is inspired by the first line of the poem, “The Way it Is” by William Stafford.
